Stopping the cyber threat

According to IATA during the first half of 2015, at least five airlines, two airport operators and one civil aviation authority have been publicly reported as victims of online attacks.

Cyberattacks are an evolving threat from which all parties in the aviation industry, airlines, airport operators, air navigation service providers and manufacturers, need to protect themselves.

The problem is that cyber attacks come in many different ways through many different channels. Simple phishing or spam emails may allow viruses into the systems, while a more aggressive attacks to the network may cause a distributed denial of service and  shutting down the network. And there are theft of passwords, theft of funds and even more.

A systemic approach to understand and address the potential cyber security risks is critical in aviation today as safety in aviation is of ultimate importance and cannot be compromised.
